In attempting to give a brief overview of the labelling industry, let us start with the obvious statement that labels are directly or indirectly indispensable to most industries. For example, it is impossible to imagine logistics and warehousing activities without them – the industries, to which probably every business has some connection.

The widespread use of labels implies their great diversity in many respects: functions, production materials, printing techniques, identification methods and so on. Virtually every application requires some unique label characteristics. Some need to be extremely durable, others on the contrary; in certain industries the information function is all that matters, while in others aesthetics are more important. For example, a different type of label is used for cold storage than is the case with heat-resistant label for electronics.

What are the differences between the labels?

Seemingly simple labels turn out to be very varied on closer inspection. As already stated, each label type must have different properties. These are achieved in several ways. Firstly, labels are made from different types of paper and plastics. Secondly, different types of adhesive are used, right up to specialised, certified food contact adhesives. In addition, there are several printing techniques that we use in various combinations. These factors make labels vary in lifespan, print quality and resistance to various external factors.
