Labels for cold stores
For anyone who has come into contact with the food industry, food processing or food sales, the need for a cold store is obvious. A freezer is a type of cold store designed to maintain the lowest temperatures. Unlike an ordinary cold store, where temperature is around 0°C, freezer rooms have negative temperatures from -5°C to -25°C, while deep-freezers feature temperatures of around -30°C.

Application and cold store design
Very low temperatures are required for the storage of many food products, especially over long periods of time. Deep-freezing is one of the best ways of preserving food. Various types of cold stores are therefore used for meat, fish, dairy products, vegetables and fruit. Because of the need to maintain a low temperature, these rooms require special design and adequate insulation. In addition, they need to be equipped with ventilation and cooling systems. Cold stores also have special heated door frames to prevent the doors from freezing.

Exceptional conditions call for exceptional labels
Cold stores are highly specialised storage areas. Similarly specialised are the labels used in a cold store, the labels that are expected to be kept there for a long time. The materials used in their production must retain their properties at very low temperatures, in particular their adhesive. This means that their properties must not degrade after a long period of storage in a freezer. These labels must remain on the frozen surfaces of packaging or products. Special adhesives are used for labels applied directly to food. Their neutrality to the product is confirmed with certificates.
As the labels used in freezer and cold storage have an almost exclusively informative function, their aesthetic value is less important. Barcodes or RFID tags, the name of the product or the date of storage are usually the key features of these labels.
Paper or foil labels with deep-freeze adhesive are used for labelling products subjected to deep-freezing. On request, the adhesive can be certified for direct food contact. All deep-freeze labels can be refined and printed in full colour.
