Pharmaceutical and Medical

In an industry where precision and safety are an absolute priority, every detail matters. Pharmaceutical labels are much more than just stickers with a product name. They are a key part of the patient safety system, a carrier of critical information and the first line of defence against counterfeiting. Choosing the right solution is an extremely important decision, affecting legal compliance, company reputation and, most importantly, people's health. We understand this responsibility. That is why we approach the production of pharmaceutical labels not just as a technological task, but as a mission in which trust and safety are at stake.

What requirements must pharmaceutical labels meet?

The world of pharmaceuticals is strictly regulated and labels are at the heart of these regulations. For a medicinal product to reach the market, its labelling must comply 100% with strict standards. Looking for reassurance that your labels will meet all the requirements? You have come to the right place. Etyfol labels meet the guidelines of Pharmaceutical Law, EU directives and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

We produce our labels from materials dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry with a non-migrating adhesive and in accordance with  ISEGA, EMA, FDA certificates. Our ISO 9001:2015 certification confirms that we work according to internationally high quality standards for customer service and the production of our products.

Key information that must be included on every pharmaceutical label includes:

  • The name of the medicinal product and its active substance.
  • Qualitative and quantitative composition, i.e. precise data on the content of the active substance.
  • Pharmaceutical form (e.g. tablets, syrup) and package contents.
  • Route of administration and special warnings.
  • Expiry date (EXP) and batch number (LOT), crucial for product traceability.
  • Storage conditions so that the medicine retains its properties.
  • Details of the responsible party.

Slightly different information is required for medical device labels. In particular, they must have a UDI or Unique Device Identification number. This is a unique numeric or alphanumeric code assigned to each medical device, enabling it to be uniquely identified throughout the supply and life chain. It consists of two parts: a permanent device identifier (UDI-DI) and a variable production identifier (UDI-PI), including, inter alia, a serial number and expiry date

Ensuring the legibility of all this data in an often small space is one of the biggest challenges. That is why it is so important to choose the right printing technology and graphic design that focuses on the clarity of the message.

Materials and print technologies - ensuring durability and legibility

Imagine a label that becomes unreadable due to moisture in the fridge or rubs off during transport. In the medical industry, such a situation is unacceptable. Pharmaceutical labels must maintain their integrity and legibility throughout the entire lifecycle of the product - from production, to storage at different temperatures, to patient use.

This is achieved through the use of specialised materials and advanced printing techniques:

  • Substrates and adhesives: We use raw materials that are resistant to low and high temperatures, moisture, friction and sterilisation processes. Low-migration adhesives ensure that no substances penetrate the product.
  • Printing technologies: Digital printing allows flexibility and personalisation, ideally suited to shorter runs and variable data such as 2D Data Matrix codes. Flexographic printing, on the other hand, guarantees high quality and cost-effectiveness for large runs.

The combination of suitable material and printing technology guarantees that the label will fulfil its informative function whatever the conditions.

Security and anti-counterfeiting - the key to authenticity

Counterfeit medicines are a huge threat to public health and a serious problem for manufacturers. Modern pharmaceutical labels are advanced tools to combat this. With them, you can protect your product and build patient trust.

What solutions do we use to ensure the authenticity of your products?

  • VOID labels: when you try to peel them off, they leave a permanent inscription on the packaging (e.g. 'VOID', 'OPEN'), which clearly indicates tampering.
  • Sealing and destructive labels: Prevent the package from being opened without visible damage to the label, acting like a warranty seal.
  • Microprint and holograms: Elements that are only visible under magnification or at the right angle, extremely difficult to counterfeit.
  • Unique QR/Data Matrix codes: Enable serialisation and tracking of every single item of product throughout the supply chain, as required by the Falsification Directive (FMD).

Implementing these security features is an investment in the safety and credibility of your brand.

The role of the label in patient safety and product identification

A medication error can have tragic consequences. Therefore, legibility and unambiguity of information on the label is an absolute priority. A well-designed label guides the eye of the user - whether doctor, nurse or patient - to the most important data: name, dose and expiry date.

When designing pharmaceutical labels, we focus on:

  • Maximum legibility: We use clear, sans-serif fonts of the right size.
  • Logical layout of information: Key data are placed in intuitive locations.
  • Contrast: We provide adequate contrast between background and text to make it easy to read even for people with visual impairments.

A non-compliant or poor-quality label is not only a risk of financial penalties or product recalls. It is, above all, putting patients' health at risk. That's why we treat every label as a tool to help prevent errors and protect what is most precious.

How do you choose the right labels?

Personalisation and expert support

Every pharmaceutical product is different - it has different packaging, requires different storage conditions and is subject to specific requirements. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. The key is to choose a partner who can not only provide labels, but also offer expertise and support at every stage - from material selection, to regulatory compliant design, to security implementation.
